Why Choose Grifco?

FAQ

Yes, in most cases you can motorise an existing roller door, provided a few conditions are met. The door should be in good condition with no warping, rusted tracks, or broken springs. There needs to be enough side clearance for the motor. Some models mount beside the door drum (jackshaft), while others require more space. You’ll also need a nearby power source, such as a power point or wiring run. Finally, the size and weight of your door must match the motor’s capacity, as larger industrial doors require heavy-duty operators.
Electric roller doors are very energy-efficient. In standby mode (idle), they typically use less than 1 watt of power. During operation, most models consume around 225 watts, depending on the door’s condition and the operator type.
A weight bar is a steel or aluminium bar fitted across the bottom of the roller door curtain. It adds a small but consistent amount of weight (usually 1–3 kg) along the full width of the door. The weight bar helps the motor operate smoothly by ensuring the door curtain engages properly and rolls evenly. It maintains smooth downward momentum without relying solely on gravity, improves the seal against the floor, and reduces shuddering in windy conditions. A weight bar isn’t about making the motor stronger - it’s about ensuring smooth, reliable operation and proper safety performance every time.

Safety and compliance requirements can vary depending on your site and business needs. However, all Grifco motors meet Australian and New Zealand safety standards.

At a minimum, appropriate entrapment protection devices must be installed and operational. These devices are essential to comply with safety regulations and ensure the proper functionality of Grifco products. Failure to install them may result in non-compliance and could impair product performance.

Additional compliance accessories may also be required. That’s why it’s important to have your site assessed by an authorised Grifco dealer. This ensures the correct products are selected and that installation meets all relevant safety and compliance requirements.
