Delivering Fans‑First Innovation at Optus Stadium
Optus Stadium’s fans‑first vision relies on seamless, safe and reliable door automation. Discover how Grifco’s Australian‑made solutions support daily operations across one of Australia’s premier sporting and entertainment venues.
Optus Stadium in Perth, Australia, is celebrated as one of the world’s leading multi‑purpose venues, built on a commitment to delivering a genuine fans‑first experience. Every design decision, from atmosphere to accessibility, was made to ensure visitors enjoy exceptional comfort and convenience at every event.
With more than 70 food and beverage outlets, a future‑ready technology framework, and the widest selection of seating and hospitality options in Australia, the stadium required behind‑the‑scenes systems that live up to its world‑class ambition.
That’s where Grifco, backed by more than 100 years of Australian manufacturing, stepped in. Partnering with WA‑based Anvil Doors, Grifco supplied the full suite of Commercial Door Operators and Safety Systems needed to support vehicular access points, equipment storage areas, workshops, food and beverage serveries, and ticketing counters, ensuring every part of the venue delivers on the fans‑first promise.
The Requirement
Operating a venue that runs seven days a week - not just on game day - demands reliable, safe and fully compliant automation. Optus Stadium required a solution that could withstand heavy use, integrate seamlessly with on‑site systems, and be supported locally.
Grifco was selected as the preferred automation partner thanks to its proven performance and industry leadership. As part of the global Chamberlain Group, the world’s largest manufacturer of door operators, Grifco brings extensive expertise in access control and automation. Its products are Australian‑manufactured, engineered specifically for local conditions, and fully compliant with AS/NZS 60335.2.103.
With a comprehensive product range, nationwide distribution network, best‑in‑class support, and strong supplier partnerships, Grifco was uniquely positioned to deliver a complete stadium‑wide solution.
The Solution
For all vehicular access points, Optus Stadium implemented Grifco E‑Drive Roller Shutter Operators paired with the unique GLCPS Light Curtain Protector System. This system enhances safety by detecting obstructions beneath the moving door, preventing accidental closure and reducing the risk of injury or damage.
These operators are fully integrated into the stadium’s Building Management System (BMS), allowing facilities and security teams to monitor door status in real time across the entire venue.
Inside the stadium, Grifco supplied Auto Descent Fire Door Operators to manage fire‑rated workshop and storage areas, as well as the majority of fire and security shutters used by food and beverage outlets. Public ticket counter shutters were equipped with Grifco Light Industrial Roller Door Operators, chosen for their compact footprint, quiet DC motors, and straightforward integration.
The Outcome
Since its opening in January 2018, Optus Stadium has continued to deliver exceptional experiences for millions of visitors, supported by a robust door automation ecosystem. Regular preventative maintenance from Anvil Doors, combined with the reliability of Grifco equipment, has ensured consistent performance in a fast‑paced, high‑demand environment.
For a venue where downtime isn’t an option, Grifco’s durable, compliant and locally supported solutions have proven to be the ideal match for one of Australia’s most iconic sporting and entertainment destinations.
